Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting in Southwest Houston; Arson Suspected

Houston police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 2400 South Loop West around 7:50 a.m. on Monday, October 27.

The suspect, Darwish Wilson, 42, has been charged with arson and burglary of a building in the 182nd Criminal District Court. Wilson is hospitalized, and a booking photo is not yet available.

Five HPD officers discharged their duty weapons during the incident: Officers N. Funes, S. Koroma, J. Sanchez, A. Moguel, and Probationary Officer B. Moreira. All are assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division.

According to HPD Special Investigations Unit reports, officers responded to a call from a security guard who attempted to detain a man suspected of burglarizing the leasing office of an apartment complex earlier that morning. The guard reported the suspect was armed and inside a vacant apartment.

Officers attempted to call the suspect out, but he refused and began setting items on fire inside the unit. When officers tried to enter, they found the door partially barricaded. The suspect then pointed a weapon at officers through the window blinds, prompting them to fire.

The suspect was struck multiple times but later dropped his weapon and surrendered. Officers provided medical aid, and Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to a hospital in stable condition.

Investigators later found evidence of the earlier burglary and arson, along with a replica handgun inside the apartment.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges against Wilson.

As standard procedure, the incident is under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
