Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Collision on Underwood Road in La Porte

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at approximately 5:45 a.m., the La Porte Police Department (LPPD) responded to an auto-pedestrian collision in the 3300 block of Underwood Road.

Emergency personnel, including La Porte Police, Fire, and EMS, arrived at the scene and found that an unidentified male pedestrian had been struck by a southbound vehicle while crossing the roadway. The pedestrian was transported by air medical to a regional hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation determined that the pedestrian unlawfully entered the crosswalk, crossing in front of the vehicle. The driver, unable to see the pedestrian due to poor lighting conditions, immediately stopped, contacted 911, and cooperated fully with investigators. Authorities have stated that no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

The incident remains under investigation by the LPPD Crash Reconstruction Team, with additional findings pending a report from the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
