One Killed, Five Wounded in Late-Night Shooting on Homestead Road, Houston Police Say

HOUSTON, Texas [ Houston Police Department homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting that left one man dead and five others wounded late Saturday night in northeast Houston.

The shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. on January 31 at 11330 Homestead Road (East Little York/Homestead area), according to police. Officers with HPD’s Northeast Patrol Division were initially dispatched to the area for a reported traffic hazard after several vehicles were found blocking the roadway.

As officers worked to clear the scene, they heard gunshots coming from an adjacent parking lot. Officers attempted to move toward the sound of the gunfire as a large crowd began to scatter and flee the area.

One victim, a 24-year-old man, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Two additional victims, males ages 15 and 16, were located at the scene with gunshot wounds and transported to area hospitals. Both were reported to be in stable condition.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned that three more victims had transported themselves to local hospitals. Those victims include a 19-year-old male and two females, ages 20 and 22. All three are also reported to be in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. LaFour and Detectives D. Crowder, A. Vinogradov, and A. Beiza are leading the investigation. No suspects have been identified, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
