Odessa Man Arrested After Burglary, Vehicle Theft, and Drug Charges

ODESSA, TX – Joel Lopez Ortega Jr., 36, has been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred on November 29, 2025, at Barron Paint, 1300 E. 2nd St. Ortega faces multiple charges, including Burglary of a Building, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and possession of controlled substances.
According to Odessa Police Department, Ortega forced entry into the business and stole a set of keys for a company vehicle, a white Ford Escape. Officers located the stolen vehicle near University and Golder, but Ortega fled, prompting a pursuit by Ector County deputies. The vehicle ultimately crashed in the 400 block of W. 57th St.
Upon arrest, Ortega was found with methamphetamine and fentanyl pills. He admitted to burglarizing the business, stealing the vehicle, and evading law enforcement. He was transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
The Odessa Police Department thanked the Ector County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
