New Mexico Man Wanted After Pursuit, School Lockdowns in El Paso
Wanted: Esteban Acosta

A New Mexico man is being sought by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) after a pursuit and subsequent foot chase near several schools in El Paso on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

According to a preliminary investigation, a DPS Trooper attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Equinox on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 3 for equipment and traffic violations around 1:31 p.m. The Trooper briefly pursued the vehicle but lost sight of it.

Later, the abandoned Chevy Equinox was discovered by DPS Troopers in a desert area situated between the Outlet Mall and Canutillo Elementary School. Reports of two individuals seen running through school property led to temporary lockdowns at Lone Star, Canutillo, and Alderete schools. The lockdowns were lifted by approximately 2:56 p.m. after Troopers secured the area.

A bag located in the abandoned vehicle contained the driver’s inmate identification, identifying him as 35-year-old Esteban Acosta of Vado, NM. Acosta has an outstanding warrant for vehicle theft and will now face additional charges of Evading Arrest in El Paso County. Authorities believe Acosta is a member of the Crucés Boyz gang.

The investigation is ongoing, and DPS is asking for the public’s help in locating Acosta. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact DPS at 915-849-4000 and request to speak with a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper. Authorities caution the public not to attempt to apprehend Acosta, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
