MONT BELVIEU, TX – A 38-year-old man from New Jersey was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 10 that began after a stolen vehicle alert was triggered.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on July 8, Mont Belvieu Police Department patrol officers received a stolen vehicle notification on Eagle Drive near I-10. Officers quickly located the vehicle as it turned eastbound onto the service road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver instead fled onto the interstate heading east.

Two MBPD units pursued the vehicle as Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol troopers joined the chase. DPS successfully deployed a tire-deflation device near mile marker 813, disabling the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Khamvilay Cartagena-Gonzale of Trenton, New Jersey, was the sole occupant. He was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, and was also found to have an outstanding felony theft warrant from New Jersey.

The vehicle was recovered without damage.
