EL PASO, TX – A man accused of killing a 26-year-old Fabens resident was extradited back to El Paso County this week to face a murder charge stemming from a March 2025 shooting, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Angel Lozano, 23, was returned to El Paso County on January 13, 2026, by deputies assigned to the sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit after being held in Colorado. Lozano is charged with murder in the death of Aaron Villa, who was fatally shot outside a residence in Fabens.

Deputies were originally dispatched around 1:43 a.m. on March 20, 2025, to the 100 block of Mezcla in Fabens following reports of shots fired and an aggravated assault. When deputies arrived, they found Villa suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he later died at a local hospital.

An extensive investigation by the sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit, assisted by the Texas Rangers, identified Lozano as the suspect. On August 11, 2025, he was located and arrested in Greeley, Colorado, by the United States Marshals Service.

Following his extradition, Lozano was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility on an outstanding murder warrant issued by the El Paso Criminal Law Magistrate Court. His bond was set at $100,000.

“This case reflects the dedication and persistence of our investigators and partner agencies who worked tirelessly to ensure this suspect was brought back to El Paso County to face justice,” said Oscar Ugarte. “We remain committed to holding violent offenders accountable and to supporting the families impacted by these tragic crimes.”
