Multi-Agency Effort Leads to Arrests, Recovery of Four Stolen Vehicles in Conroe Auto Theft Spree

CONROE, Texas – A coordinated response between Conroe Police and Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office led to multiple arrests and the rapid recovery of four stolen vehicles after an organized auto theft operation targeted a Conroe neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
On January 27, 2026, at approximately 3:26 a.m., a resident of Grand Central Park reported his vehicle stolen from his driveway. Conroe patrol officers responded immediately and activated vehicle recovery efforts, alerting surrounding agencies. The stolen vehicle was soon located in Harris County under the jurisdiction of Precinct 4.
Precinct 4 deputies quickly located the vehicle, but the incident escalated into a pursuit. When the vehicle stopped, multiple suspects bailed out and ran, leading deputies into a tense search through nearby commercial areas near FM 1960 Rd & Greenwood Dr.
The suspect was apprehended by the Precinct 4 K-9 Unit, including K-9 “Mattress Mack,” named after the Houston businessman and local benefactor. Aerial support assisted in the effort. Constable K9 Mattress Mack stopped the suspect via bite.
Around the same time, Conroe officers received a second report of a stolen Chevrolet pickup from just a few streets away. Officers located that vehicle before it could leave city limits. The suspect fled on foot but was quickly taken into custody.
A continued multi-agency investigation led to the recovery of two additional stolen vehicles in north Harris County. All four vehicles were confirmed to have originated from the Grand Central Park area.
Chief Jon Buckholtz said criminal street gangs deliberately targeted Conroe’s more affluent neighborhoods. “Criminal street gangs have intentionally targeted Conroe’s more affluent areas to steal luxury vehicles,” Buckholtz said. “Their intent is to bring criminal activity north along IH-45 and into our city, depriving our citizens of their personal security and property.”
Buckholtz added that multiple vehicles had been pre-selected earlier in the night.
“Within three hours, all four have been recovered and returned to Conroe, and three arrests have already been made,” he said. “Our team is diligently working to secure arrest warrants for numerous additional suspects involved in this organized criminal scheme.”
The chief praised Conroe’s Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Reduction Unit, and Communications Division, along with the swift assistance from Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office and K-9 Mattress Mack.
During this incident, a civilian was struck and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.
Conroe Police say the investigation is ongoing and residents will soon receive additional reminders and safety tips aimed at preventing vehicle theft.
