Midland Teen Faces Upgraded Charges in Odessa Hit-and-Run Death
On October 27, 2024, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a major accident at the intersection of Everglade and Bellaire Drive. Investigators determined that an 18-year-old Midland resident, Jose Contreras, was driving a black 2016 Dodge Challenger west on Everglade before turning south onto Bellaire when his vehicle left the roadway, striking 25-year-old pedestrian Alex Bingham of Odessa.
Contreras fled the scene without providing aid, abandoning his vehicle after the collision. Bingham was transported to Medical Center Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on October 30. Bingham’s next of kin have been notified.
Following an investigation, Contreras now faces upgraded charges, including Collision Involving Death (Second-Degree Felony) and Intoxication Assault (Second-Degree Felony). Additionally, 24-year-old Nadia Trevino was charged with Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor (State Jail Felony). The investigation remains ongoing.
