METRO Bus Overturns After Crash Near McGowen and 288, Multiple Injuries Reported

Houston firefighters and paramedics responded Saturday afternoon to a serious crash involving a sedan and a METRO bus near the intersection of McGowen Street and Highway 288.
According to the Houston Fire Department, the crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on January 3. The impact caused the METRO bus to overturn, rolling from the McGowen bridge onto the retaining wall along 288.
One passenger aboard the bus was pinned inside the wreckage. Houston Fire Department rescue crews used multiple specialized tools to free the woman from the bus. She suffered serious injuries.
In total, 14 passengers on the bus and the driver of the sedan were injured. All but one person were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Fire officials said the incident highlights how quickly routine calls can escalate and the importance of crews remaining adaptable and prepared for complex rescue situations.
Multiple HFD units responded to the scene, including Engines 7 and 8, Ladders 7, Rescue units 42 and 11, several ambulances, EMS supervisors, district chiefs, command staff, and Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz.
