Man Shot and Killed Inside Spring Apartment; Shooter Released Pending Grand Jury Review

SPRING, Texas — A man was shot and killed inside an apartment at the Serena Woods complex Thursday evening, July 17, prompting a homicide investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded around 6:00 p.m. to reports of a weapons disturbance at 2800 Hirschfield Road, apartment #147. A male caller told 911 dispatchers that he had shot his friend inside the unit.

Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Deputies arrived on scene and detained the caller. Emergency Medical Services attempted life-saving measures on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene from at least one gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Homicide detectives interviewed the victim’s girlfriend, who witnessed the incident. Crime Scene Units processed the scene, and detectives later interviewed the shooter.

Following the interview, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted. Prosecutors decided the case would be presented to a Grand Jury after the investigation is complete. The shooter was released and transported back home.

The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office removed the body from the apartment. An autopsy is expected to be conducted within 24 hours to determine the official cause and manner of death.
