Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Home Invasion That Left Houston Police Officer Shot
Scott Durfee

HOUSTON — A Houston family and a wounded police officer received justice Wednesday after a man responsible for a violent home invasion was sentenced to decades behind bars.

Michael Perez was found guilty of Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon for his role in a September 2024 home invasion that resulted in Houston Police Officer Scott Durfee being shot while responding to the emergency.

On February 25, 2026, a judge sentenced Perez to 45 years in prison.

Violent Home Invasion

Prosecutors told jurors that Perez and two accomplices targeted a northwest Houston home by posing as food delivery workers. When the homeowner opened the door, two suspects forced their way inside while a third remained outside acting as a lookout.

Inside the residence, the intruders zip-tied a mother, terrorized her children, and demanded money.

A vigilant neighbor witnessed the suspicious activity and called police.

Officer Shot Responding to Call

Officer Scott Durfee and his partner arrived within minutes. As the officers entered the home and discovered the woman restrained, Durfee was shot by one of the suspects.

Durfee survived the shooting.

Justice Delivered
