Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Assaulting Pregnant Woman, High-Speed Evading Incident in Bryan

Jorge Aguina has been sentenced to the maximum of 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to Assault on a Pregnant Woman and Evading Arrest in a Vehicle. Judge John Brick handed down the sentence and made an affirmative finding of both a deadly weapon and family violence. As a result of the deadly weapon finding, Aguina must serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
The charges stem from an incident on August 12, 2023, when Bryan Police officers in the Downtown Bryan area were alerted to a white SUV speeding out of St. Andrews Episcopal Church’s parking lot. A witness reported seeing a passenger attempting to exit the vehicle and believed a kidnapping was in progress.
Shortly after, another witness reported seeing a man in the same vehicle attempting to run over a woman at the corner of Beck and Palasota. The suspect fled the scene.
Police located the victim, Aguina’s ex-girlfriend, who reported that Aguina had confronted her about her refusal to speak with him. He then forced her into his vehicle and drove off. The victim managed to escape when the vehicle slowed down, but Aguina exited the vehicle, assaulted her, and tried to drag her back inside by her hair. Officers observed visible injuries, including two chipped teeth. The victim also informed police that she was pregnant.
Aguina later led police on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour through residential areas, running red lights and endangering the public. The pursuit was eventually called off due to safety concerns. A warrant was later obtained for his arrest.
The case was investigated by the Bryan Police Department. Assistant District Attorney Jessica Escue prosecuted the case for the State of Texas, with assistance from Victim Assistance Coordinator Mandie James.
