Man Rams Deputy’s Car, Barricades Himself with Children in Dickinson Standoff

A 44-year-old man was arrested Friday, May 30, 2025, after ramming a deputy’s vehicle and barricading himself inside his home with two juveniles, prompting a SWAT response.
According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when an off-duty Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a vehicle driving erratically and at a high speed along FM 517 west. The deputy, in full uniform, followed the vehicle into the Lakes Bay Area subdivision and contacted dispatch.
The driver, identified as David Mills, initially stopped his vehicle, but then intentionally reversed, striking the deputy’s car twice before fleeing to his nearby residence.
Galveston County patrol deputies responded and attempted to take Mills into custody at his home. Mills resisted and barricaded himself inside the house with two juveniles.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated. After a brief standoff, Mills surrendered without further incident.
Mills was booked into the Galveston County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, with bond set at $200,000, and Assault on a Public Servant, with bond set at $100,000.
