Man Killed in Brazoria County Shooting; Suspect Taken Into Custody

A Sunday evening disturbance in Liverpool, Texas, ended with one man dead and another in custody, according to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.
On January 4, 2026, at approximately 6:29 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence in the 200 block of Liverpool Spur. When deputies arrived, they found a Hispanic male lying on the ground suffering from multiple suspected gunshot wounds and showing no signs of life.
A second Hispanic male was detained at the scene, allowing Emergency Medical Services to safely enter and attempt life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim was later identified as 27-year-old Javier Martinez of Liverpool. His body was transported to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be conducted.
Sheriff’s Office investigators and forensic personnel responded and began an active death investigation. The detained individual was identified as 28-year-old Manuel De Jesus Munoz Chavez of Alvin, Texas. Chavez was subsequently taken into custody and is expected to be charged with one count of murder.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say no additional details will be released at this time.
