Man Fatally Shot at Austin Gas Station; Suspect Arrested for Murder

In the early hours of Saturday, January 18, 2025, Austin Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at the Citgo gas station located at 717 East 7th Street.
When officers arrived at approximately 3:02 a.m., they discovered 23-year-old Chivalos Lockett, an unresponsive Black male, in the front passenger seat of a black vehicle. Lockett was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 3:24 a.m.
The suspect, 25-year-old Zion Singleton, was detained at the scene. According to the investigation, Singleton had been parked at the gas station for some time. Shortly before the shooting, Lockett entered the vehicle’s front passenger seat. Moments later, Singleton exited the vehicle after shooting Lockett.
Detectives confirmed that Singleton is a documented gang member and is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. Singleton refused to provide a statement to investigators.
Singleton has been charged with First Degree Murder and remains in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
