Man Dies in Custody at Montgomery County Jail, Investigation Underway

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the in-custody death of 37-year-old Alex Brady Dalton, who was pronounced deceased early Tuesday morning, November 11, 2025, at the Montgomery County Jail.

According to officials, Dalton had been booked the previous afternoon on a charge of Assault Family Violence. In the early morning hours, he began exhibiting erratic behavior and reportedly harming himself. Jail staff intervened to prevent further injury, but Dalton soon became unresponsive. Medical personnel at the jail administered lifesaving measures, and emergency responders from the Montgomery County Hospital District were called. Despite their efforts, Dalton was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Major Crime Detectives, working alongside the Texas Rangers, the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, are investigating the incident as required under Texas law. Dalton’s next of kin have been notified.

The Sheriff’s Office stated it remains committed to the safety and care of individuals in custody and is cooperating fully with investigators to determine the cause of death. Officials extended condolences to Dalton’s family, noting that no additional information will be released while the investigation is ongoing.
