Man Confesses to Unprovoked Stabbing on FM 1960; Arrested by Off-Duty Officer

HOUSTON, TX – A brutal stabbing on a busy Harris County thoroughfare ended with a swift arrest last week after an off-duty officer intervened. 29-year-old Travis Wilson has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon following the January 6, 2026, incident.

The attack occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of FM 1960. District One Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find a scene that witnesses described as a relentless assault.

Off-Duty Intervention

A bystander who witnessed the stabbing flagged down an off-duty Houston Police Department officer who happened to be nearby. The officer rushed to the scene and confronted Wilson, issuing verbal commands for him to drop the weapon.

Wilson complied and was immediately detained. Officers then discovered the victim suffering from multiple severe lacerations to his upper torso and other parts of his body. He was rushed to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

Video Evidence and Confession

The investigation was bolstered by multiple surveillance cameras in the area, which captured the entire attack and corroborated the accounts of the witnesses and the arresting officer.

During questioning, Wilson reportedly confessed to the stabbing. While detectives confirmed that Wilson and the victim were acquaintances, Wilson could not provide a motive for the violence, stating simply that he was “upset and acted out for no reason.”

HCSO Homicide detectives contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, where the Chief on duty officially accepted the felony charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His bond has been set at $150,000 and remains in custody at the Harris County Jail.
