Man Arrested for DWI Dies Hours After Booking into Harris County Jail

A 55-year-old man, Devin Todd Williams, died Thursday morning after experiencing an apparent medical emergency at the Harris County Jail, just hours after being booked on a drunk driving charge.
Williams was arrested by the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office and booked into the jail around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. On Thursday at approximately 9 a.m., jail staff found Williams unresponsive in the Joint Processing Center waiting area. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The Houston Police Department will also conduct an independent investigation into the death, as required by state law. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office will perform an internal review to ensure all policies and procedures were followed by jail staff.
