HOUSTON, Texas — A routine patrol in an area known for drug activity and stolen vehicles ended with an arrest, a brief chase, and the recovery of narcotics on January 7, 2026.

Harris County Precinct 2 day shift deputies were patrolling the 8500 block of Winkler Drive when they noticed a black Hyundai displaying a fictitious, hand-written license plate. As deputies pulled in behind the vehicle in a marked unit, the sole occupant attempted to leave the area.

Deputies contacted the driver and explained they were conducting an investigation due to the fake plate and the high number of Hyundai thefts reported in the area. When the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle so deputies could check the VIN, he fled on foot.

During the escape attempt, the suspect stole a bicycle from a nearby residence and continued trying to evade deputies before abandoning the bike a short distance away. A K9 unit was called to the scene and successfully tracked the suspect to a garage in the 8000 block of Barkley Street, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

An inventory of the Hyundai led deputies to a small bag located in the driver’s door that contained suspected crystal methamphetamine and crack cocaine.

The suspect was identified as Jacob Micah Price. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and accepted charges for Possession of a Controlled Substance. The investigation remains ongoing.
