Man Accused of Pointing Gun at Victim Arrested After Drugs Found in Bacliff Home

Bacliff, TX — A man is facing multiple felony charges after Galveston County deputies responded to a report of a person with a weapon at a residence in Bacliff.

According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Uniformed Operations Division were dispatched on March 3, 2026, to the 4800 block of Scott Reef.

During the response, the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was called to assist and take over the investigation.

Detectives determined that 40-year-old James Whitaker allegedly pointed a firearm at a victim before fleeing into the residence.

Investigators later obtained and executed a search warrant at the home to gather additional evidence.

During the search, detectives reported finding approximately one pound of marijuana, 46.3 grams of Alprazolam, and a handgun inside the residence.

The case was presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, which approved charges against Whitaker.

Whitaker has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, with bond set at $150,000, and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 3 or 4 between 28 and 200 grams, with bond set at $100,000.

Officials said the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting residents and maintaining public safety.
