Leander Man Found Dead in Home After Fire; Bomb Squad Responds

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Leander Police officers responded to a welfare check in the 2200 block of Hilltop Climb Drive after a caller reported not being able to reach the resident for several days.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased male, later identified as 67-year-old Samuel Tyson, inside the home. While securing the scene, officers noticed burn damage in the living room area and called in the Austin Police Department Bomb Squad to assess whether the damage had been caused by an explosion or fire.
As a precaution, nearby homes were evacuated. After the residence was cleared by the Bomb Squad, investigators from Leander Police and Leander Fire entered to conduct a joint investigation.
Initial findings indicate that a fire originating on the living room couch caused the damage and did not spread beyond that area. Tyson’s body was discovered near the source of the fire. Investigators believe the incident appears accidental, though the case remains under investigation.
Authorities say there is no threat to the public and thanked nearby residents for their cooperation during the evacuation.
