League City Police Chief Provides Clarity Amid Wyoming Teen Runaways’ Social Media Threats

League City Police Chief, Woitena, addressed concerns regarding the recent social media attention surrounding the Wyoming runaways. Chief Woitena clarified that while the investigation has been ongoing since Thursday evening, there is no documented threat against schools in League City by the two juvenile males involved.

The only connection to League City is through a female acquaintance of the boys, whose relatives reside there. However, these relatives have no relationship with the boys, and they are not welcome at their home. Chief Woitena emphasized that the narrative of violence against a school stemmed from a comment made approximately six months ago, which was not a direct threat against schools or the community.

Chief Woitena expressed concern over misinformation circulating on social media and urged the public to rely on credible sources for information. In response to community concerns, the police department has implemented a plan to increase security measures at schools and daycares.

Collaborating with various law enforcement agencies, including the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson Police Department, and League City Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office, officers will be stationed at 32 private schools and daycares during peak hours. Additionally, patrol officers will increase their presence at public schools throughout League City.

The police department remains actively engaged in investigating any potential tips or leads related to the case. Chief Woitena assured the community that the safety of citizens remains the primary concern, and law enforcement will continue working diligently to provide a secure environment for all residents.
