League City Officer Arrests Wanted Fugitive Sex Offender; Had Used False ID for 18 Years

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – routine traffic stop in League City led to the arrest of a fugitive sex offender who authorities say had been evading law enforcement for years.
According to the League City Police Department, 41-year-old Meltron Levion Alberty of Allen, TX, was arrested on Saturday, March 21, 2026, following a stop in the 800 block of Hobbs Road.
An officer initiated the stop around 10:03 p.m. after observing multiple equipment violations. During the encounter, the driver provided identifying information that did not match official records, prompting further investigation.
Police determined the individual had given a false identity and was in possession of fraudulent identification documents. He was taken into custody and transported to the League City Jail without incident.
Through fingerprint analysis and facial recognition technology, officers identified the suspect as Alberty. Authorities discovered he had two active felony warrants out of Dallas County for aggravated sexual assault of a child related to a probation violation.
Investigators also determined Alberty was an absconded sex offender for failing to comply with registration requirements. He was convicted in Dallas County on November, 2005, on two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He had been charged after sexually abusing his 7-year-old nephew. According to court records, he abused him in excess of one hundred times over a five-year period. After appealing several times, the Court of Appeals Fifth District of Texas reversed the decision and ordered a new trial. In that trial, on December 2009, Alberty was given a 10 year probation and required to register as a sex offender for his lifetime.
With the current arrest, additional charges were added. These charges are tampering with a government record, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, failure to comply with sex offender registration, and failure to identify as a fugitive from justice.
Police said Alberty admitted to using a false identity and avoiding law enforcement for approximately 18 years.
He is being held on multiple bonds totaling more than $180,000.
Officials said the arrest highlights how routine enforcement actions can lead to the capture of individuals with serious outstanding warrants.
