Katy Double Homicide Suspect Captured, Charged With Capital Murder

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced Tuesday, January 27, that a suspect has been arrested in a double homicide that left a Katy couple dead earlier this month.
The investigation began on Monday morning, January 12, 2026, around 6:00 a.m., when Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies and EMS responded to a 911 call at a home in the 3700 block of Bent Springs Lane, near North Mason Road and Clay Road. A man reported that his parents had been shot and were beyond help.
First responders arrived to find a husband and wife deceased inside the downstairs area of the two-story home. Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful, and both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives identified the victims as Christopher Lopez, 52, and Trinette Lopez, 52. Investigators determined that both suffered at least one fatal gunshot wound to the upper body. At the time of the shooting, the couple’s two adult children and a juvenile relative were asleep upstairs and were not physically harmed.
Detectives conducted interviews with family members, neighbors, and witnesses, while crime scene investigators processed the home and canvassed the surrounding neighborhood for surveillance footage. Through the investigation, detectives identified 42-year-old Norman Lee Johnson as the suspect. Johnson is the biological father of the victims’ adoptive juvenile daughter. Authorities believe the motive for the killings stemmed from ongoing custodial issues.
Johnson was charged with Capital Murder for the deaths of Christopher and Trinette Lopez.
On Tuesday, January 27, members of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force located and arrested Johnson in Round Rock, Texas. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail and is expected to be extradited to Harris County to face charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
