Intoxicated Houston Man Killed Accidentally During Struggle to Disarm Him
The Houston Police Department is currently investigating an apparent accidental shooting that occurred at 6600 Hillcroft Avenue around 12:35 a.m. on Saturday, September 23.
The victim, an 18-year-old male, remains unidentified pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to reports from HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Diaz and M. Castillo, HPD patrol officers were dispatched to the scene in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive man on the patio of his apartment with a gunshot wound. Tragically, Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man deceased.
Preliminary findings from the investigation, along with witness statements, suggest that the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, retrieved a pistol with the intention of firing it into the air. Witnesses, disturbed by his actions, attempted to disarm him. During the struggle over the weapon, it discharged at least once, striking the male.
The investigation is continuing.
