Intoxicated Driver Causes Property Damage in South Belt/Ellington

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, deputies from Constable Jerry Garcia’s Office responded to a criminal mischief call in the 10800 block of Ritow St in South Belt/Ellington. The call was in reference to a vehicle causing property damage.

According to the reportee, they observed a vehicle speeding down the street on their security cameras. The vehicle collided with a basketball goal situated on the front lawn before striking a light pole. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the driver, who exhibited signs of intoxication.

The driver, identified as Bryan Chavez, admitted to consuming three Jack Daniel’s and Coke mixed drinks approximately 30 minutes before the accident. Deputies conducted standard field sobriety tests, leading to the driver’s detention. Subsequently, Bryan Chavez was transported to the South Houston Police Department.

A breathalyzer test was administered, revealing that Bryan Chavez was over double the legal limit with a reading exceeding .08. He was safely arrested and later booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated.
