Intoxicated Driver Arrested for Fatal Crash on East Freeway, Passenger Injured

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 10:39 PM, a fatal collision occurred on the 16300 block of East Freeway. 42-year-old James Anthony Adkins was operating a white 2018 Dodge Ram when he parked in the number one westbound lane without any lights on. A witness swerved to avoid hitting him.

At the same time, Charmayne Lashawn Bridges was driving a grey 2014 Kia Optima in the same lane, with Paige Shonteal Elaine Chapman in the front passenger seat. Charmayne was unable to stop in time and struck the back end of the Dodge Ram. Charmayne was found with no signs of life at approximately 10:51 PM by Channelview EMS.

Paige was transported to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center with minor injuries. Adkins showed signs of intoxication, and a blood specimen was obtained. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges, and Adkins was booked for Intoxication Manslaughter.

This incident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office – Vehicular Crimes Division.
