Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Wrong-Way Pursuit Through Bush Intercontinental Airport

HOUSTON, TX – On Saturday, December 27, 2025, deputies with Harris County Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to reports of a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Hardy Toll Road near FM 1960 in the Westfield area.
Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over and led officers on a pursuit. During the chase, the vehicle entered the area of George Bush Intercontinental Airport, creating a serious safety risk to motorists and others in the area.
To bring the pursuit to a safe end, deputies deployed multiple tire deflation devices. The vehicle was successfully stopped, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver was identified as 54-year-old Nelva Vargas Corona. Deputies determined she was intoxicated and also found her to be in possession of a firearm.
Corona was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of evading arrest in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, and unlawful carry of a weapon. Her bond was set at $10,200 out of County Court at Law No. 9.
