Inmate Caught with Loaded Gun Concealed in Wheelchair at Harris County Jail

Harris County Jail detention officers confiscated a loaded handgun concealed in an inmate’s wheelchair on Tuesday morning, following an anonymous tip.

The weapon was found inside the seat cushion of the wheelchair used by 53-year-old Tyrone Kennedy, who had been booked into the jail on an October 23 felony parole revocation warrant. The gun was discovered in a general population cell at the 1200 Baker Street facility in Houston.

Investigators are working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to file new felony charges against Kennedy. An internal investigation is underway to review jail policies and procedures related to the incident.
