Houston Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Bellfort Street

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 7500 Bellfort Street, in the Golfcrest/Bellfort/Reveille area, around 8 a.m. on Friday , January 10th.

The victim, a 69-year-old male, has not yet been identified, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer Z. Alikhan, the male was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a prior crash and was standing on the sidewalk near a guardrail at the location.

A 39-year-old female driver of a black Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on Bellfort Street when she swerved to avoid hitting vehicles involved in the earlier crash. The Impala struck the guardrail, prompting the male pedestrian to jump over it and land in a grassy area under the bridge.

Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the man to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The female driver remained at the scene, was determined not to be impaired, and was questioned and released.

The investigation remains ongoing.
