Houston Police Investigate Fatal Bicycle Crash on Fondren Road in Southwest Houston
The Houston Police Department is currently investigating a tragic incident that took place at 13800 Fondren Road around 2:35 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27.
The victim, a 53-year-old male, has not yet been officially identified, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The unfortunate accident occurred as the deceased individual was riding his bicycle northbound on the sidewalk near the aforementioned address.
A black Ford F-250 pickup truck exited a private driveway at the same address and came to a halt at a red light at the intersection of West Orem Drive, facing eastbound. As the driver of the pickup prepared to make a right turn onto Fondren, the bicyclist reached the intersection and also made a right turn onto West Orem. Tragically, the two vehicles collided at this juncture.
Following the collision, Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the injured man to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced deceased. The driver of the pickup truck, who remained at the scene, was assessed and found not to be under the influence of alcohol or substances. After providing a statement, the driver was released by authorities.
The investigation is continuing.
