Houston Officer-Involved Shooting: Pregnant Woman Killed, Two Men Wounded in Sharpstown

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 28-year-old pregnant woman dead and two men injured early Thursday in the 6600 block of Harwin Drive in the Sharpstown area.

The suspect, 42-year-old Ronnie D. Mitchell, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officers say HPD patrol units heard gunfire during a traffic stop and witnessed Mitchell firing at three individuals. An HPD officer discharged his duty weapon in response to protect public safety, firing five shots; no officers were injured.

Mitchell fled the scene but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. The female victim was pronounced dead at a hospital, while a 35-year-old and 37-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities confirmed there is no evidence that the officer’s gunfire struck any victims.

The HPD Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office are leading the ongoing investigation.
