Houston Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Violent Carjacking and Firearm Offenses

Dominique Luis-Donte Quinones-Amos, 28, has been sentenced to 108 months (9 years) in federal prison for a violent carjacking in which one victim was struck multiple times with a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

On October 4, 2021, Quinones-Amos approached two men at an apartment complex on Dunlap Street. After striking one of the men in the face, Quinones-Amos turned his attention to the driver, pointing a gun at him and repeatedly hitting him with the weapon. Quinones-Amos then stole the victim’s vehicle, leaving the man injured on the ground. Authorities later recovered the vehicle and linked it to Quinones-Amos through DNA testing.

The investigation also revealed Quinones-Amos was in possession of firearms, despite being a convicted felon, and had sold fraudulent credit cards and money orders.

In addition to the carjacking, Quinones-Amos had prior convictions, including felony assault of a family member.

“Quinones-Amos engaged in a series of offenses that put the people of this district in danger in a variety of ways – a carjacking, brandishing a gun, using fully-automatic conversion devices and even financial crimes,” said Hamdani. “This office will not allow such dangers to go unanswered, and today’s sentence will keep the community safe for several years to come from this one-man wrecking crew.”

U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen sentenced Quinones-Amos to 108 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Quinones-Amos remains in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

The Houston Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Laurence Goldman prosecuted the case.
