Houston Man Charged With Murder After Woman Fatally Shot in Kashmere Gardens

HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston man has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a woman in the city’s Kashmere Gardens neighborhood, according to the Houston Police Department.
Marockus Silas, 34, was charged with murder in the 178th State District Court in connection with the shooting.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:05 p.m. on June 8 in the 5100 block of Lavender Street.
Houston Police Department patrol officers responded to a shooting call and found a 42-year-old woman lying in a parking lot with a gunshot wound.
Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities said the woman’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The investigation is being conducted by HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Reyes, J. Meister and A. Garcia.
According to police, officers detained Silas at the scene shortly after the shooting. Following a review of the case by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Silas was formally charged with murder for his alleged role in the incident.
Investigators have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The case remains under investigation.
