Houston Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Stabbing on Sherwood Lane

A 37-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred Sunday evening, June 1, at an apartment complex located at 3820 Sherwood Lane.

Juan Manuel Arguetta Avila has been charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court. His booking photo was released by the Houston Police Department.

According to HPD Homicide Division Detectives P. Michon and I. Barrett, officers responded to the scene at approximately 6:05 p.m. after Arguetta Avila himself called police to report the incident. He was taken into custody without incident outside the apartment complex, and the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene.

Inside the complex’s common area, officers discovered a 38-year-old male suffering from multiple stab wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased on the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Following an interview with investigators, Arguetta Avila admitted to his involvement in the stabbing. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed formal charges.
