Houston Firefighters Respond to Complex Apartment Blaze

HOUSTON – On the evening of Monday, December 1, Houston Fire Department crews responded to a fire at an apartment building located at 218 Plaza Verde Drive near Bush Airport. The fire quickly escalated due to windy conditions and its movement between floors and void spaces, prompting an upgrade to a 2-11 response.
During operations, one firefighter’s foot broke through the flooring, trapping him briefly. A mayday was immediately called, upgrading the response to a 3-11. The firefighter was safely removed and evaluated on scene, sustaining no injuries.
Firefighters battled the complex blaze under cold and windy conditions, demonstrating teamwork and professionalism in a challenging situation. The American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast has been notified to assist residents displaced by the fire.
