Houston Fire Department Mourns Loss of Firefighter Paramedic Stephen Scott

HOUSTON—The Houston Fire Department (HFD) has announced the death of Firefighter Paramedic Stephen Scott, who passed away today following an on-duty medical emergency he suffered on Sunday.

“Firefighter Scott was a dedicated member of this team, and will be missed by the HFD family,” said Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz. “His legacy is one of hard work, honor, and service to his community.”

Scott, who joined the department in 1997, had been assigned to Station 102 in Kingwood since 2008. Before that, he spent many years at Station 9 on Hogan Street. He also managed HFD’s Base Station services for the Houston region, which coordinates ambulance traffic to ensure patients are taken to the appropriate hospitals.

Scott is survived by his wife and three adult children.

In his honor, all HFD members will wear their Class B uniforms with shrouded badges until his funeral. Houston Mayor John Whitmire has also requested that flags at all city facilities be flown at half-staff.

The HFD’s Firefighter Support Network is working with Scott’s family, the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 341, and the crew of Station 102 to assist the family.

Funeral services are pending.
