Houston Fatal Crash on Southwest Freeway Kills Woman, 45, Standing by Truck

HOUSTON, Texas – A 45-year-old woman died early Sunday after a Subaru slammed into a disabled pickup on the Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) in Houston, Houston police said. The fatal crash happened about 5 a.m. on November 1.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has not yet verified the woman’s identity.
How the crash happened
Investigators with the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division said a blue Dodge Ram 1500 lost a tire on the freeway and pulled onto the side. The woman, a passenger in the truck, stood in front of it.
A silver Subaru Outback then hit the Dodge from behind. The impact pushed the truck forward and pinned the woman between the Dodge and a concrete barrier, police said.
Houston Fire Department paramedics took her to an area hospital, where she died.
Subaru driver hospitalized
The Subaru’s driver, a 69-year-old man, showed no signs of intoxication, according to police. Paramedics also took him to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition.
Police have not announced any charges. The investigation is ongoing.
Sergeants K. Bui, E. Alejandro and A. Patterson and Officer M. Keita of the Vehicular Crimes Division reported the findings. The incident number is 708250426-A.
