A suspect fleeing from law enforcement in a stolen truck collided with another vehicle, resulting in the tragic death of an innocent driver in northwest Harris County on Friday.

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:54 p.m. when officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety discovered a vehicle reported stolen from San Antonio. Upon locating the stolen vehicle near the intersection of the Grand Parkway and Highway 290, they sought assistance from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies attempted to stop the stolen white Ford F-250, but the vehicle refused to comply, prompting a pursuit that spanned approximately nine minutes and covered roughly 14 miles from Highway 290 to the crash site at the Grand Parkway feeder road and SH-249.

Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement Command, Tommy Diaz, reported that the suspect exited the highway and entered the feeder road about three-fourths of a mile west of the collision site. Primary units involved in the pursuit were unable to exit at that time, but secondary units managed to get off the highway.

Minutes later, deputies arrived at the scene of the crash at the intersection of the Grand Parkway feeder road and SH-249. The suspect’s vehicle had collided with another vehicle on the driver’s side, resulting in the tragic death of the driver of the second vehicle.

The 29-year-old suspect, whose origin is currently unknown, was taken into custody at the scene. Emergency medical services also responded to provide assistance.

The suspect, currently in stable condition, is potentially facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, and vehicular manslaughter.

Additionally, a motorcycle was found in the roadway following the collision, which had been in the bed of the stolen vehicle when the crash occurred. It remains unclear whether the motorcycle was also stolen.

No other individuals were present in either the stolen vehicle or the vehicle struck by the suspect during the incident.
