High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Arrest as Stolen Vehicle and Identity Theft Suspect Apprehended in Harris County
Joseph Patrick Slater

On January 14, 2024, Deputy Muschweck from Harris County Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office observed a blue Chevy SUV with expired registration. Upon further inspection, the license plate linked to a tan GMC. Deputy Muschweck attempted a traffic stop at Frey Rd near Gilpin St, leading to a pursuit. The vehicle eventually stopped on Hinds St, where the driver fled into a residence.

Additional units established a perimeter, and deputies removed multiple occupants, including the suspect, 41-year-old Joseph Patrick Slater. A VIN check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen by the Houston Police Department. A search uncovered 19 pieces of identifying information, including licenses and debit/credit cards.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted felony charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of Vehicle. Charges for Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information were declined. Slater was transported to the Harris Count Joint Processing Center, with bonds set at $10,000.
