High-Speed Crash in Central Southwest Houston Leads to Infant’s Death; Driver Arrested

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at approximately 5:05 pm, Houston Police Officers responded to a significant collision at 12300 Almeda Road in Central Southwest. The incident involved an Infiniti SUV and at least two other vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an apparent crash scene where an Infiniti SUV, driven by 28-year-old Charles A. Washington, had collided with multiple vehicles. Tragically, an infant passenger in the SUV was found unresponsive. Houston Fire Department paramedics rushed the infant to an area hospital, where the child was later pronounced deceased.

During the course of the investigation, officers attempted to detain Washington, who exhibited aggressive behavior and lunged at them. Despite the resistance, officers successfully detained Washington, and he was subsequently transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Two juvenile passengers, a 13-year-old female and an 8-year-old male, who were also in the SUV at the time of the crash, sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Homicide detectives, in collaboration with the investigation, determined that Washington was operating the Infiniti SUV at a high rate of speed on Almeda Road, colliding with at least two vehicles before coming to a stop.

As a result of the incident, Charles A. Washington has been charged for his role in the crash and was booked into the Harris County Jail.
