Head-on Collision in El Paso Claims One Life

On January 8, 2024, Special Traffic Investigators responded to a distress call in the 5000 block of Tetons, El Paso, investigating a head-on collision that resulted in serious injuries.

The preliminary findings suggest that 51-year-old Amador Yamil Garcia, a resident of central El Paso, was traveling east on Tetons when, for unknown reasons, he veered left onto the westbound lanes.

In the westbound lanes, 69-year-old Luis Alfonso Chavez from northeast El Paso was traveling. Garcia’s vehicle collided head-on with Chavez’s Chrysler Voyager due to the sudden lane change. Chavez sustained minor injuries, while Garcia was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Regrettably, Garcia succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital.

On January 9, 2024, Investigators received notification from the Medical Examiner’s Office confirming that Garcia’s death was a direct result of the collision.
