Harris County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Witness in 2023 Fatal Shooting; Details Released
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is appealing to the public for assistance in solving the murder of 21-year-old Angel Santiago Muñiz, who was fatally shot on November 19, 2023, outside Tacos del Toro #2 on Freeport Street in East Houston.
“This young man had his entire future ahead of him. Someone out there knows what happened, and we need them to come forward,” said Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. “The Muñiz family deserves closure and our community deserves justice.”
Surveillance video from the scene shows Angel’s white pickup truck turning onto Muscatine Street, closely followed by a dark-colored Lexus SUV. The Lexus is described as having severe damage to its rear passenger side on both the right and left sides. Moments later, a gray, newer model Toyota Camry LE is seen speeding past both vehicles, cutting off the Lexus and following Angel into a driveway.
Investigators believe the driver of the Camry then opened fire, killing Angel. The Lexus subsequently backed away from the scene, and detectives believe the driver of this Lexus SUV witnessed the entire shooting.
Angel’s father, Rosendo Muñiz, expressed the family’s grief, stating, “We just want justice.” Angel’s younger sister, Fabiola Muñiz, added, “It destroyed us. Not just as a family, but me, as a person.” Angel was a mechanic who helped raise and financially support his two younger sisters, Fabiola and Marisol.
The investigation remains open and active, but detectives emphasize the critical need for information from the witness in the Lexus. “Imagine if it were your family,” said Detective Talip. “Please do the right thing and come forward.”
The HCSO Homicide Unit urges anyone with information to call them directly at 713-274-9100. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS, with tipsters potentially eligible for a $5,000 reward leading to an arrest.
