Harris County K-9 Injured After Suspect Attempts to Drown Dog During Pursuit

Harris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Ghost was injured while assisting deputies in the pursuit of a wanted offender who allegedly tried to drown the dog. The suspect, Bryan Crofton, 19, was arrested and remains in custody.
Deputies were in the 14200 block of Lockwood Drive attempting to locate Crofton, who had active felony warrants for Injury to a Child and Interfering with 911 Services. Crofton crashed his vehicle in a ditch and fled on foot toward a pond. K-9 Ghost and handler Deputy Almeida pursued him into the water, where Ghost successfully bit Crofton. During the chase, Crofton allegedly attempted to drown Ghost. Deputies entered the water to assist in detaining the suspect.
Crofton was treated at a hospital for bite injuries. K-9 Ghost received immediate care and was transported to a veterinary clinic as a precaution. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that Ghost is expected to make a full recovery and no deputies were injured during the incident.
Additional charges against Crofton now include Evading and Interfering with a Service Animal.
