Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has announced the heartbreaking loss of one of his deputies in a fatal car accident on Saturday night, February 10th. The victim, identified as 62-year-old Ronald Bates, lost his life in the incident.

The Houston Police Department reported that the deadly crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the Midtown area. Initial investigations indicate that Deputy Bates lost control of his vehicle and crashed on Travis near Richmond Avenue. Despite efforts, he was unable to survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Ben Taub hospital.

Deputy Bates, a dedicated member of the agency for 31 years, had just completed his work shift before the accident. Described as a loving husband, father, brother, and mentor, he touched the lives of many within the community.

Sheriff Gonzalez expressed profound sadness over the loss, stating, “He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”
