Harris County Deputies Arrest Suspect in Active Facebook Marketplace Theft

ENCHANTED OAKS, TX – On October 31, 2025, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office were patrolling the 200 block of Magic Oak Drive in Enchanted Oaks when they observed a disturbance between two vehicles. Responding immediately, deputies discovered that the incident involved an active theft.

Investigation revealed that the complainant had arranged to sell property through Facebook Marketplace. After receiving the items, the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Duane Vassell, attempted to pay with forged currency and flee the scene.

Deputies quickly intervened, detaining Vassell and safely recovering all stolen property, which was returned to its rightful owner. The rapid response of deputies prevented the suspect from leaving the area and ensured that no one was harmed during the incident.

Vassell was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, facing charges of Theft and Forgery to Obtain Property. His total bond was set at $200 out of County Court 1.
