Good Samaritan Dies After Hit-and-Run Crash on Katy Freeway, Houston Police Seek Driver

HOUSTON, Texas – Houston police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a man dead after he stopped to help others involved in an earlier accident along the Katy Freeway.

According to the Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. Feb. 21 in the 13300 block of West Interstate Highway 10. Investigators said a 51-year-old man exited his vehicle to assist occupants of two vehicles involved in a prior crash on the freeway when he was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene.

Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries on Feb. 23. Authorities said his identity is being withheld pending notification of family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect vehicle is believed to be a black or dark-colored Honda sedan.
