Fleeing Suspect Dies After Being Struck by Harris County Deputy’s Vehicle Following High-Speed Chase

A man died early Sunday morning after being struck by a Harris County Deputy Constable’s vehicle following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash. The suspect was identified as A. Tamez.

The incident began around 9:54 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, when a Precinct 7 Deputy Constable attempted to stop a white 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan for driving without headlights and speeding on Beltway 8. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, refused to stop and led deputies on a chase, reaching speeds of approximately 120 miles per hour.

The Volkswagen exited the freeway and continued on the service road, running multiple red lights. A Precinct 3 Deputy Constable located the vehicle a short time later, still speeding without headlights. The driver again refused to stop.

The pursuit continued until the Volkswagen exited Beltway 8 at the West Lake Houston Parkway exit ramp, ran another red light, struck a curb, and crashed into an open field. The male suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

The pursuing Precinct 3 Deputy Constable followed the suspect in his patrol vehicle. As the suspect ran around the marked police car, he encountered muddy and slick terrain near a dirt berm, lost his footing, and fell. The deputy constable applied his brakes hard to avoid hitting the suspect, but the patrol vehicle slid on the muddy surface and struck him.

Deputies rendered first aid until EMS arrived. The male suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office – Vehicular Crimes Division is actively investigating this incident. Authorities stated that the information released is preliminary and does not reflect the final findings of the investigation.
