First Anniversary of Camnik Campbell’s Death: Austin Police Appeals for Community Assistance in Unsolved Homicide
As the one-year mark since the untimely death of Camnik Eugene Campbell approaches, the Austin Police Department’s (APD) Homicide Unit is renewing its appeal to the public for information that could help solve the case. The lifeless body of 28-year-old Campbell was discovered near Barton Springs Pool on August 25, 2022, in a chilling incident that continues to baffle investigators.
Despite a year of relentless efforts, detectives have yet to uncover a motive behind the tragic killing. The investigation, which has been actively pursued, has hit roadblocks, leaving the community and law enforcement seeking answers.
The grim discovery unfolded on a Thursday morning at approximately 7:13 a.m. Responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle near Barton Springs Pool at 2201 Barton Springs Rd, APD officers found Campbell’s body. Dr. Escott pronounced him dead at 7:42 a.m. The subsequent examination revealed that Campbell had succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound, leaving a community in shock.
While investigators believe the incident to be an isolated one, they are eager to harness community assistance to ensure public safety. The APD announced a bolstered presence of patrols across city parks to deter violent crimes, in response to this incident as well as another homicide at Auditorium Shores on August 24, 2022.
